Activity 1: Word Transformation with Pop Sticks
Students start by reading a list of CVC words, focusing on the short vowel sounds. Then, they add an "e" to the end of each word and pronounce the new word, noticing how the vowel sound changes. To make this even more fun, each student gets a pop stick with an "e" attached to the end, allowing them to practice adding and removing the "e" from words. Customise your pop stick by writing the "e" or using the included star cutouts!

Activity 2: Real vs. Nonsense Word Sorting
In this sorting activity, students categorise words based on vowel sounds. They'll sort words into "real" and "nonsense" categories, reinforcing their understanding of long and short vowels. For added excitement, students can "feed" the real words to an animal character and toss the nonsense words into a bin. If a student places a real word in the bin, take the opportunity to introduce them to the word and its meaning.
